Knowing Your Personal Finances
Getting Ready For The Weekend
By Donell Edwards

Another weekend is upon us.  Most of us have plans for recreation and relaxation, some will engage in a favorite activity or do some work that has been waiting for attention, of others will just kick back and enjoy some time away from work.  Whatever you do, understand that your budget and managing personal finances never takes time off.  So be money wise whatever you do.

As we constantly remind readers, the weekend can destroy everything you have accomplished during the week resisting the urge to spend wildly.  It is easy to give ourselves a pass on the weekend because we feel that after a long, challenging, demanding week, we owe it to ourselves to treat ourselves in whatever way we choose. And recreation and relaxation are fine, as long as money is not spent that we do not have, purchases are made for things we do not need, and we totally forget everything we have learned about making good money choices.

To help you get off to a good start for the weekend here are some things to think about:  Why do we splurge on things we don’t need?  Read the article and think about what really matters to you and if you are really serious about doing a better job of managing your money.  Don’t splurge or go on a spending binge this weekend.  Here is a suggestion to help you avoid impulse buying.  Read Preventing impulse buys with a waiting period.  This is something you can try this weekend and if it works for you it may be something you continue to do to help you avoid impulse spending.   And we can’t discuss controlling spending on the weekend without talking about The myth of the payment mentality, charging everything.  Mentally prepare for this weekend.

Since this is the beginning of a new month, we want you to get off to a good start.  So be sure to read our Must Read below, How Do You Prepare Financially For A New Month.  Success in anything demands good planning.   Have a great and money wise weekend.
